Transportation Laboratory

The Transportation Laboratory in Crothers Engineering Hall is integral for teaching transportation related courses and conducting research on transportation-related topics.

As much of transportation engineering is now done digitally, the desktop computers in the transportation laboratory are equipped with a suite of relevant software, including:

  • AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Highway Capacity Software (HCS)
  • ArcGIS mapping and spatial data analysis software
  • Statistical and data analysis software (SAS & R) for analyzing the wealth of transportation-related data

The transportation laboratory serves the freshman-level surveying course, the junior- and senior-level highway and traffic engineering courses, and various graduate-level transportation courses.

As the transportation engineering field is expanding to new horizons, the Civil & Environmental Engineering department intends to expand the transportation lab to serve the research and teaching needs in three main thrust areas: Data and Analysis, Automated Vehicle/Connected Vehicle and Visualization/3D Immersive Environment.
