Who's living where and what they live in
The Census Bureau reports several types of housing-related data. Before discussing this information, we will define a few terms. First, a "housing unit" refers to an area either occupied or intended for occupancy as separate living quarters. A "household" includes all the people who occupy a housing unit as their usual place of residence.
Household characteristics may encompass several types of demographic data, such as family size, marital status and educational attainment.
This type of information is available through American FactFinder. In addition, we have compiled more specific, local 2000 Census data on the numbers of families, households, percent change in the number of households and persons per household at the state and county level.
