About the Department

The SDSU Department of Biology and Microbiology produces graduates and highly skilled professionals who will continue onto exciting and desirable careers in medical science, biology education, biological research, biotechnology, and microbiology - in industry or academia. Our department supports opportunities at all levels of post-secondary education, offering B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees for each of our major programs.

We seek to exceed state and federal calls to provide competent and capable science majors ready to meet the needs of the local, regional, and world economies. As such, we train our students in current technologies, integrate the latest research, and foster a spirit of engagement using up-to-date pedagogical techniques. Our diverse faculty include research and instructional staff with local, national, and international experiences in education, research and industry enabling our department to meet the varied demands of today's global job market.
