Welcome to the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences! Our college is the intellectual and cultural heart of South Dakota State University. The disciplines we teach and study span the breadth and depth of the human experience. Students can chart their future careers in more than 27 majors and 44 minors housed within the schools of American and Global Studies, Communication and Journalism, Design, Management and Economics, Performing Arts and Psychology, Sociology and Rural Studies, as well as the School of English and Interdisciplinary Studies.

From architecture students working with faculty to develop plans to revitalize downtown Watertown, to Air Force and Army ROTC cadets honing their leadership skills, to future entrepreneurs developing their first business plan, the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences provides students with unparalleled opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Our focus on community-based projects and service-learning ensures that all students in the College have the opportunity to work together to help address real-world problems. Our emphasis on internships and career exploration positions our students to launch successfully into their professional roles upon graduation. Even more importantly, our students are prepared with the essential skills necessary to navigate a rapidly changing economy. We prepare our students to be well-informed citizens, ethical professionals and creative and thoughtful individuals who have the commitment to be leaders in their careers and their communities.

"The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences provides students with unparalleled opportunities for personal and professional growth."

The College is committed to supporting the Land Grant Mission of South Dakota State University. Our faculty experts regularly conduct research that directly benefits the people of South Dakota and of our region, with research projects that engage our communities and support their social, cultural and economic development. We take pride in our role of opening the doors of SDSU to the community. We hope that you will join us at a public lecture, at a concert or play at the newly expanded Performing Arts Center, or at an exhibit featuring the works of our students and faculty in the visual arts, architecture or design.
