Promote, Protect and Improve the Public Health of Rural America
The online Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) program is a partnership between South Dakota State University and the University of South Dakota and develops public health practitioners and leaders to address the public health needs of rural and underserved communities. The program has adopted an interprofessional approach to addressing the five core areas of public health:
- Biostatistics
- Epidemiology
- Health services administration
- Social and behavioral sciences
- Environmental health
The MPH is the most widely recognized professional credential for practice and leadership in public health. The Master of Public Health is the only program of its kind in the state and is offered online to meet the needs of a diverse student population.
SDSU and USD draw on their strengths in addressing the healthcare needs of rural and underserved communities and focus the MPH curricula on rural public health, creating a distinct national and regional identity for the program. This program is designed to train students in the core competencies of public health education and prepare them with the knowledge and skills necessary to assume a variety of positions in South Dakota and beyond.
