Release of ‘Rushmore’ Oat
The South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station is releasing a new white oat variety named Rushmore to Certified Seed growers in the spring of 2020. Rushmore is an F5-derived line from the cross SD080015//SD070110/SD060130. It is approximately one day earlier than Hayden in maturity and similar in plant height with superior straw strength. Over 25 environments in the SD CPT oat variety trials, Rushmore ranked third for grain yield. It is resistant to moderately resistant to crown rust, moderately resistant to BYDV and smut. It exhibits good milling characteristics.
There will be a $0.30/bushel research fee on the sales of Certified Rushmore Oats and Plant Variety Protection will be applied for. There will be no saleable Registered Seed class.

Release of ‘Driver’ Hard Red Spring Wheat
Driver is a hard red spring wheat variety developed by the South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station and will be released to Certified Seed growers in the spring of 2020. It came from the cross of MN06075-4/SD4165 and tested as SD4625.
Superior qualities associated with Driver include: High yield potential, Medium Late Maturity, FHB Tolerance and Excellent Straw Strength. Driver is two days later than Prevail in maturity, similar in yield potential and has a 0.5% higher grain protein content. Test weight is 0.5# higher than Prevail and 1” taller. There will be a $0.60/bushel research fee on the sales of Registered and Certified Driver spring wheat and Plant Variety Protection will be applied for.
