The Department of Agronomy, Horticulture and Plant Science enhances engaged learning, inspires scientific discoveries, and delivers outreach that empowers sustainable management of plant biosystems and natural resources.


Discover and disseminate knowledge in the plant sciences to enhance economic development and quality of life in South Dakota and beyond.

Strategic Goals

  1. As a regional and national leader, we will impact society at all levels through innovative and excellent undergraduate academic programs in agronomy, horticulture and precision agriculture, and graduate programs in plant science.
  2. We will be a nationally recognized research leader in plant biosystems and natural resources.
  3. We will provide indispensable outreach and social engagement to the people of South Dakota, the region and the world in the area of plant biosystems and natural resources.
  4. We will provide the human, fiscal and infrastructure resources needed for program success.
