GENERAL GUIDELINES
Submit samples in sterile tubes. Approximately 2/3 to 3/4 full is optimal for serum recovery. Blood samples should be allowed to sit at room temperatures for several hours to permit a clot to form. Samples should then be centrifuged if in a serum separator tube or centrifuged and the serum poured off the clot into a separate sterile tube (if snap-cap tubes are used please make sure they are closed completely to prevent leaks). For best results, samples should not be subjected to temperatures below freezing, or above 85°F when on the clot. When sample has been removed from the clot the serum may be frozen to increase longevity. The most accurate results are obtained by submitting samples that are free from bacterial contamination, and have minimal to no hemolysis.
Label all samples with an ID on the tube, not on the stopper.
