*Effective beginning with the summer 2018 term for all new first-time freshman and transfer Nebraska residents.

**Non-resident freshmen and transfer students may qualify for a rate equivalent to in-state tuition if a parent or legal guardian graduated from South Dakota State University. Freshmen must have a 20 ACT composite score (930 SAT). Transfer students must have a 2.5 cumulative transfer GPA. Contact the Admissions Office for more information.

Some majors require additional discipline fees as well. 

Tuition & Fees

Iowa & Nebraska residents pay equivalent rate to in-state tuition

Starting summer 2016 at SDSU for Iowa residents and summer 2018 at SDSU for Nebraska residents, new freshmen and transfer students who are residents of each state will pay an equivalent rate to in-state tuition.

Children of Alumni

Children of SDSU alumni can qualify for in-state tuition no matter where they live under a new program approved by the South Dakota Board of Regents. To qualify, non-resident students must:

  • Have one parent of legal guardian who graduated from South Dakota State University with an associate, bachelor, masters, or doctorate degree.
  • New freshmen must have a minimum 20 ACT composite score or 930 SAT by the first day of semester classes.
  • Transfer students must have a 2.5 cumulative transfer grade point average (GPA).
  • The Child of Alumni application form must be submitted by the first day of semester classes.
