Vice Provost of Graduate Education and Extended Studies search finalists named

Three finalists have been selected as candidates to be the South Dakota State University vice provost of graduate education and extended studies. They will interview for the position next week.

The interviews will also include open forums for each individual to engage with key industry, community and university stakeholders.
The candidates, in order of interview date, are:

Rose Marie Ward, vice provost of graduate education and extended studies search

Rose Marie Ward
Ward is the associate dean of the Miami (Ohio) University Graduate School and a professor in the Department of Kinesiology, Nutrition and Health. She interviewed March 22 and her open forum recording is available via Zoom at Ward Zoom.

She earned a Bachelor of Science from Juniata College and her master’s and doctorate from the University of Rhode Island.

Before her role as associate dean, she served as the director of Miami (Ohio) University’s Center for Teaching Excellence. She has also worked in roles with the university’s Division of Student Life and College of Education, Health and Society.

Christoper L. Hill, vice provost of graduate education and extended studies search

Christoper L. Hill

Hill is a program director in the Division of Graduate Education at the National Science Foundation and a professor in the departments of Geosciences and Anthropology at Boise State University. He interviewed March 24. His open forum recording is available via Zoom at Hill Zoom.

Hill earned his doctorate at Southern Methodist University’s Institute for the Study of Earth and Man and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota-Duluth.

He has served as acting dean and associate dean for the BSU Graduate College, where he provided oversight to more than 100 graduate programs. At NSF, his responsibilities include long-range planning and management for the Graduate Research Fellowship Program and other NSF programs focused on faculty professional development and STEM workforce training. He was a visiting assistant professor at Tulane University and associate curator of geology and biology at Montana State University.

H. Rai Kathuria, vice provost of graduate education and extended studies search

H. Rai Kathuria
Kathuria is the assistant vice president in the Office of the Executive Vice President for University Academic Affairs at Indiana University. He is also the director of the Office of Collaborative Academic Programs of Indiana University Online and oversees all collaborative online degrees, graduate as well as undergraduate, in multiple disciplines over seven Indiana University campuses. He interviews Friday, March 26, His open forum starts at 11 a.m. and is available via Zoom at Kathuria Zoom.

Kathuria holds a doctorate from the University of Delhi and has completed the management development program from Harvard University.

He previously served as the associate dean in the School of Natural Science and Mathematics and chair of the Department of Science at Indiana University East.
