Once you move away from home, staying in touch with friends and family becomes a top priority. SDSU offers internet access to every student in the residence halls, so you can email or chat at any time. All you need to bring is a computer—desktop or laptop—and we can connect you with high speed internet access through ResNet, the student residential network.
Be sure to take the time to set up your computer for internet access on your first day in the residence hall. Don't worry about supplying your own network cable, because you can pick it up at your residence hall front desk. Then, follow these instructions to get your service activated:
If you have any problems using the Cisco NAC program or registering for ResNet, the Support Desk can help. Plus, your hall is staffed with a trained ResNet Technician to provide software, internet, and limited hardware support, as well as any general troubleshooting. Your residence hall front desk will have your ResNet Technician's contact information.
SDSU requires all computers to use Symantec Endpoint Protection (any other antivirus software will be uninstalled, so you need not purchase any prior to coming to campus). If you don’t have the current version, we will provide a copy and/or install it free of charge. Stop at the Support Desk or the eSDSU Laptop Center for the software or more information.
Your new home is now wireless. Students are not allowed to have any routers in the residence halls (so you don’t have to worry about bringing one to campus). If you have a desktop computer, all you need to bring is a network interface card to get connected. Then, just ask your ResNet Technician to help you get set up. If you will be bringing a laptop, just drop it off at the eSDSU Laptop Center, and they’ll get you up and running. If you are a Mac user, be sure to contact either your ResNet Technician or the eSDSU Laptop Center for further assistance.
