About John Brawand

Dr. Brawand came to SDSU in 1998. He manages the SDSU string program, teaches in the Music Appreciation and History sequences. Dr. Brawand is also Musical Director of the SDSU Civic Symphony. He studied conducting with Anshel Brusilow, Cornelius Eberhardt and Zoltan Rozsnyai. Dr. Brawand earned his B.M. and M.M. in Violin Performance from the University of North Texas-Denton and the D.M.A. in Violin Performance from the University of Texas at Austin in 1985. His mentors include David Neubert (Double Bass), Phyllis Young (Cello), George Papich (Viola) and Leonard Posner (Violin).
