Tony Temple CLASS OF '10

Junior

Hometown: Mitchell, SD

Majors: Pre-Medicine and Spanish

Minor: Chemistry

Tony Temple ’10 got more than he bargained for when he came to SDSU. “I chose SDSU because I wanted to be a doctor, and it came highly recommended,” he says. “But there are also all kinds of opportunities that go way beyond the classroom.”

In fact, Tony is responsible for providing some of those opportunities. As chair of the Leadership Society for Delta Chi fraternity, he arranges for prominent leaders to come to campus each month and chat with his brothers for about an hour and a half. Recent guests have included the South Dakota’s secretary of state, the state’s lieutenant governor and the president of First Bank and Trust.

But for Tony, the opportunities don’t just go beyond the classroom—they also go beyond South Dakota. He is preparing for a summer fellowship at the University of Illinois at Chicago. (He’s one of only 24 students around the country awarded this prestigious fellowship. He’ll spend ten weeks working with a chemical involved in vascular genesis.) Before that, he’ll travel for about a month in West Africa, then take another week to explore Amsterdam and Greece.

Oh, and did we mention he’ll be studying in Ecuador next semester?

He’s walking proof that, as he says, “If you get involved as much as you can, you’ll get more than you put in. Put in a lot, and the return on investment will be incredible.”
