Major: Nursing
Josh has also been impressed by the university’s nursing curriculum. “It’s a great program,” he says. “Sometimes it can be stressful because it’s so rigorous, but I love every minute of it.” He especially appreciates the clinical experiences available in nearby Sioux Falls hospitals. “Recently I worked in pediatrics, helping to keep a child comfortable, administering his medication, taking care of his IV, changing his clothes and answering questions. When you can get that kind of experience and sample each nursing field, then you have a better sense of what you want to do when you graduate.”
With a bachelor’s in nursing, Josh will be eligible to take the nursing boards and become an R.N. after graduation. (The odds are good he’ll pass—SDSU enjoys a 97 percent pass rate.) He hopes to work in a hospital setting, preferably in Minnesota to be closer to his family.
“This year, the theme for Capers was the '80s and '90s. Some friends and I reenacted Michael Jackson’s ‘Beat It’ video. The battle scene was pretty cool because we actually jumped over each other on stage.”
