No one who has seen her shoot hoops will be surprised that Jenn came to SDSU in part for the chance to play Division I basketball. “The coaching staff and the values of accountability that they encourage were really important to me,” she says. “But I also liked their emphasis on our jobs as student-athletes, not athlete-students.”
In fact, Jenn’s team has one of the highest average GPAs among all other Division I athletic teams in the nation. That’s a tribute not only to the women’s hard work and dedication, but also to their talent for managing only 24 hours in a day. “When it comes to juggling basketball and coursework, we all learn how important it is to stay organized and to communicate with our professors about our schedules.”
“I can’t imagine going to another school. SDSU feels like a second home to me,” Jenn says. “The students here are the kind of people who will stand up for you on your wedding day. They make an impact on your life—and you make an impact on theirs.”
This year Jenn led the women’s basketball team to SDSU’s first appearance in a Division I tournament. It’s been a great experience for someone who says, “Even before I was a student here, I was a Jackrabbit at heart.”
