What do firefighting, nursing, and the Boys and Girls Club have in common? Cameron Kwon.
Cameron transferred to SDSU from a community college in California, where he had earned an associate degree in fire science. He originally intended to major in nursing here, but a university-sponsored shadowing program quickly showed him that nursing wasn’t in the cards. He discovered that he wanted to help people before they needed it—to focus on prevention rather than intervention. That led him to the human development major and ultimately his current job.
It’s been a winding road academically for Cameron, but he’s never been afraid of what’s around the next bend. Last summer he traveled through Ghana, Togo, and Benin to study West African health and education systems. (And to ride an occasional camel through the desert.) Other SDSU-sponsored trips have taken him to Washington, D.C., St. Louis and Minneapolis. “Every place I go influences my thinking and broadens my mind,” he says, “and I’d never have gone so many places without SDSU.”
