When you feel comfortable with yourself and your environment, it’s easy to take on whatever challenges come your way. Bethany Wuttke ‘09 has done just that. She’s served on the University Program Council as vice president and Hobo Day “Grand Pooba”, worked as a senator of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences, and pitched in as an Orientation Leader. She also plays intramural volleyball and dodgeball.

Academically, she’s made the most of her opportunities by sampling as many career options as she can. “I always knew I wanted to work with children,” she says, “but I didn’t know how—in schools, in social work settings, in government? Now I know that I want to counsel or teach.” She credits her broad SDSU experience with giving her a vision both for what she can do and what she wants to do: “I have direction now.”

“Both of my sisters went to SDSU. They had a great time, but I wasn’t sure I wanted to follow them to college. Then I came to campus and everything changed. All the people I met were so welcoming that I knew this was the place for me.”
