Recognized for Excellence

The South Dakota State University College of Pharmacy is nationally recognized for excellence in preparing students to provide high quality patient-centered care. The Pharm.D. program curriculum is designed to prepare pharmacy graduates for interprofessional collaborative practice. Medication therapy management, patient counseling on proper medication use, and drug therapy outcome monitoring are areas of focus throughout the program.  In addition, development of lifelong learning and leadership skills are emphasized.

The College also offers a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences graduate program, which provides a valuable background of preparation for an academic or pharmaceutical industry career. South Dakota State University's Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences program began in 2007 and has rapidly grown in prominence since that time.

In addition, the College of Pharmacy is the academic home of the South Dakota State University Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) program.  The SDSU MLS program offers a two-year upper division Bachelor of Science degree that prepares students for careers in medical laboratory science or related fields.

In the area of research, the College features a vast array of projects. Research teams led by faculty are making progress on projects that can enhance the health and well-being of people around the world. The College’s growing research portfolio includes cancer treatment, unique drug delivery systems, addiction to drugs and alcohol, cardiovascular health, vaccine technology, and interprofessional collaborative care.

The "home" of the College of Pharmacy is the Avera Health and Science Center.
