About the College of Nursing

Creating the future nursing workforce

As the state’s nursing education leader, SDSU College of Nursing alumni are RNs with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) who are certified as nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists, nurse educators, healthcare leaders and nurse scientists. One-third of the newly licensed RNs in South Dakota each year are SDSU graduates. Since 1977, the CON has offered the only public education Master of Science degree in Nursing and since 2005, the state’s only Doctor of Philosophy degree in Nursing (Ph.D.). The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree, offered since 2009, prepares APRNs at the professional doctorate level of practice.
