Lansky demonstrates how to avoid pitfalls on the road less traveled (as well as during a semester abroad) and adapt an inquisitive travel mindset for enriching one’s life. He’s traveled for 10 years in more than 100 countries, hosted a travel channel program, written for a nationally syndicated newspaper column and contributed to the Rough Guide and Lonely Planet books, as well as NPR’s Savvy Traveler program.

T.W. Schultz, South Dakota native and SDSU alumni, won the Nobel Prize in Economics for his pioneering work on the theory of human capital development. Schultz’s academic legacy has inspired generationsof scholars and policy makers around the world. The symposium will feature renowned professionals from diverse fields, panel discussions on Wednesday, Oct. 7, and a keynote by Dr. Wallace Huffman, Distinguished Professor at Iowa State, on Oct. 6. Keynote: October 6, 7:30 p.m.

Kolker was formerly Deputy Global AIDS Coordinator in the Office of US Global AIDS, which led America’s emergency plan for AIDS relief. He was formerly U.S. Ambassador to Uganda and Burkina Faso.

Tribal people speak reflectively about the past, from their personal, tribal and/or professional experiences, and offer suggestions for making a better present and preparing for a better future for all people. Among this year’s featured speakers will be Nanabah Allison-Brewer, head coach of the SDSU women’s volleyball team, and Joseph Brewer, coordinator of SDSU’s American Indian Studies Program.

Medical anthropologist, physician, and human rights activist he has dedicated his life to treating the world’s poorest populations. His work was documented in Tracy Kidder’s book, Mountains Beyond Mountains, the subject of SDSU’s Fall, 2009 common read. Farmer is a founder of Partners in Health and serves as the UN Special Envoy to Haiti.
