Walker continues Beethoven sonata series

John Walker A daunting musical undertaking, the performance of all 32 of Beethoven’s sonatas, is nearing its conclusion.

At 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 15, in the Performing Arts Center, South Dakota State University Professor John Walker will give the ninth program in his series of the complete Beethoven piano sonatas.

Walker, recipient of several distinguished honors at SDSU, including the F. O. Butler Faculty Award for Excellence in Creative Activity, will present a program including Sonata No. 15 in D major, Op. 28 - known as the "Pastoral," Sonata No. 18 in E-flat major, and a late sonata - No. 20 in E major, Op. 109. This is an unusual recital program considering all the pieces to be showcased are written in major keys.

Walker has performed two recitals per year since spring 2008 in this Beethoven series. The 10th and final concert will be held in March 2013.
