Jazz Ensembles of all levels are cordially invited to participate in the Twelfth Annual SDSU/Brookings Optimist Jazz Festival! This year, the vocal and instrumental festivals will be on the same day. The Festival will be held on Thursday, April 6th, 2017 at the Performing Arts Center, Volstorff Ballroom, and McCrory Gardens.
We make it a priority to invite some of the best artists and adjudicators from around the country to our festival. Each of our featured artists will present clinics in their area of expertise and perform with SDSU Jazz Ensemble I during the evening concert on April 6th. This year's featured artists are Tom Walker (trombone), Marsha Walker (vocals), and Tommy Poole (saxophone).
Each participating group will have 45 minutes for set-up, performance, and clinics. Each group's clinic will take place on stage immediately following your performance (no tapes necessary!), and of course, will be carried out in a positive, motivating manner. Two outstanding ensembles will be selected by the clinicians to perform on the evening concert. Outstanding soloist and section awards will also be presented at the end of the day.
All participating instrumental ensembles will receive complimentary tickets to the evening concert on April 6th as part of the group fee, so plan to stay for the concert! For inquiries or additional information, please call the SDSU Department of Music at (605)688-5187.
