Mission Statement

The SDSU-Human Subjects Committee was established to manage the institution’s human research programs. This committee is responsible for ensuring that the individual subjects are protected by the requirements of the IRB (Institutional Review Board) as well as meeting federal requirements when carrying out human research.

Human subjects research at SDSU will be guided by the Belmont Report.  Its three principles are:

  1. Respect for persons: individual autonomy through informed consent and protection for those with reduced autonomy
  2. Beneficence: through the maximization of benefits and the minimization of harm
  3. Justice: through an equal selection of subjects and a sharing of risks and benefits
