Human Subjects Committee

SDSU has purchased computer-based training in human subjects protection from the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI).  This training should be taken by all new investigators and the refresher course should be taken by any investigator who has taken the NIH course when she/he submits a new protocol.

Obtaining Confidential Grades for SDSU Students

Please use the email address- SDSU.IRB@sdstate.edu --for all correspondence and submissions. This procedure will assure that all committee members have the submitted information. Failure to use this account may delay the review of materials.

Please use the latest revision of the IRB form--March 2007.

Investigators outside the SDSU campus requesting approval to recruit participants from our campus, please read our policy, send an email to SDSU.IRB@sdstate.edu with your request, a copy of your proposal, documentation that you have completed training in the protection of human research participants, and a copy of the IRB approval from your institution.

If an unanticipated problems or serious (but anticipated) problems or incidents occur during your research, please report these immediately to Research Compliance Coordinator (688-6975) or to the Human Subjects Committee SDSU.IRB@sdstate.edu. The procedure and form can be found at the forms page.

SDSU has purchased and made available to all faculty and students a Web-based application for producing online surveys. SONA is easy to learn, use, and customize. The application can be used for numerous purposes-- research, exams, providing feedback, etc. For additional information, go to http://ids.sdstate.edu/About/sonasurvey.cfm or contact Michelle Parker.

The Videotape Series "Protecting Human Subjects" is available for investigator/classroom use. The tape has three segments: "Evolving Concern: Protection for Human Subjects," "Balancing Society's Mandates: Criteria for Protocol Review," and "The Belmont Report: Basic Ethical Principles and Their Application." Contact Norm Braaten.

A PowerPoint presentation highlighting the development and guidelines for research involving human participants is available for your  information and/or use. These slides may be used for classroom purposes, but they may not replace any IRB-required training.  ppt version
